Something New for June

Something New
June, 2016
by Angela White

Marc slipped into the trees at the edge of the road, not far from where his vehicle was waiting. He scanned the area and saw dozens of fire engines crawling with yellow clothed men trying to extinguish the fire, but there were no signs of anyone else. Thick smoke blew over the dusty road and he quickly ran toward the street, drawing surprises from the firefighters.
“Hey man!”
“Where did you come from?”
Marc didn’t stop to answer the busy men. They had worked to do and he needed to get out of here.
Marc jogged down the side of the road, darting around wildlife that was still fleeing ahead of the flames. The three walls of fire had merged now to create one long bank of death that was destroying everything in its path. Marc wasn’t even sure he would be able to use this road to get off the mountain.
His worn-out Jeep came into view, causing Marc to increase speed as relief gave him an extra burst of adrenaline. He slid into the driver’s seat, reaching for the keys that he’d left in the ignition.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Marc froze at the sound of a gun being cocked. He didn’t need to scan the tall, thin figure to know who it was. He had recognized the voice.
“Is the boss’s wife still smiling?” Marc taunted.
The nasty punch took him by surprise, even though he had instigated it. Marc slumped in the seat, dazed from the temple shot. Rough hands pushed him over and slid behind the wheel of his jeep.
Marc struggled to come out of the daze, but another fist slammed into his forehead and everything went dark.

The familiar movement of his jeep in unfamiliar hands brought Marc back to alertness. He’d known someone might be waiting, but he’d been in such a hurry to get out that he’d forgotten to check underneath the vehicle. That was a common place for this type of hunter.
Sucking in a breath against his boiling guts, Marc used his elbow and all of his weight to slam into the driver, neatly shoving the man up and out of the vehicle. Open tops were convenient.
The man hit the ground beside the Jeep and skidded down the incline, screaming as his ankle snapped.
Marc didn’t waste any sympathy. These hunters were as ruthless as they came. Thankfully, they weren’t very smart.
Marc pulled the Jeep onto a wider area of the road, and killed the engine. There were still at least half a dozen men tracking him, and he wasn’t about to lead them back to his hotel room. He would never get to sleep.
Marc exited the vehicle and took up a stationary position in the weeds around the warm jeep. He didn’t think it would be long for someone discovered his new location. He was a prize target in a great place to be taken. No longer protected by his team or society, Marc was just another animal alone in the wilderness. Anything could happen out here. To them. He didn’t plan on mercy. Interrupting his vacation had been a huge mistake. The enemy hadn’t given him time to cool off or relax. They’d come for the civilian. They would get the Marine.
This story will be released on 8/11. Here is a link to the page on my blog where all the store links will be added during release day/week.

June News and Notes from the Wonderful World of Angela White

Happy summer vacation, world! (Sorry, if you don’t get one.)
I hope the first half of your 2016 has gone well. If not, there’s always hope for the rest of it, right? As for me, I’ve been a busy beaver. Here are the June News and Notes for your reading pleasure:
Marc and Angie
Marc and Angie is a Life After War backstory that details the childhoods of the two main characters. It is 610 pages. I hope you enjoy it! Here are the links:
iTunes
Kobo Books
Barnes & Noble
Smashwords
Amazon:  USA  Canada  UK  Germany  Australia

New FB page signups
I have a new page on Facebook. It is an official Author page and has features that my personal profile (where we’re already connected) does not.  Because my personal profile has a friends limit (and because I’m tired of censoring my personal posts. You think I overload it now? You honestly have no idea.) and because the new page is much more reader-friendly, I am asking fans to ‘like’ the new page and then remove themselves from my personal profile. I have already made a few posts about this. Here is the link to the new page:
What if you don’t do anything?
By the end of summer, I will have the entire 1800 friends sorted through. Since I have no way of telling who liked the new page, then we will no longer be connected. No, I’m not sending 1800 messages (FB wouldn’t allow it anyway-it is spam) to let you know I’ve gotten to your name. If you want to remain connected-on the new page-then you’ll have to click the buttons. If you do nothing, that’s your choice, but we will no longer be connected. I repeat, by the end of summer, I will have deleted all 1800 people from my personal FB wall.
What if you want to remain on both pages?
Send me a private message-yes, through FB-and I’ll let you know. Sometimes I just need a place where people aren’t going to judge me for the way I feel/think/believe. These stupid social profiles were supposed to be that, but they’ve morphed into ugly battles where freedom of expression has become a myth. So, honestly, I’m not sure I’m keeping anyone except close friends or family and even then, I have to be fussy because not all friends and family are actually good for a person, you know? Sucks to make these choices and I think the fairest thing to do is to remove everyone that I don’t have a true personal relationship with. We’ll see how many people really want to stay. Might not have to deal with it at all. In summary, ‘like’ the new page to keep up-to-date on my books and such. To remain on the personal wall, send me a FB message and we’ll see how it goes.
Last month’s something new
My blog schedule changed in March. Once a month, the ‘something new’ is separate. Here is a link to read these fresh pages (all very recent) from the haunting mind of… who am I today? Wait, we’ll get back to that. Over the next few weeks, I will add a tab to the top of this blog with all these links.
Last month’s book lover poll
Once a month, I also ask those burning questions that drive society, like where do you get your ebooks? Grin. Here is the link to the last one. Let your voice be heard!
Last month’s Informational Article
Once a month I’ve added an informational article on the world of books and reading. Last month’s topic: Why don’t Indie Authors have Editors, was full of details that most readers don’t know about the books they love.
A surprise release!
During the week of July 4, I will have a new release available here and on all the big stores! What is it? Here’s a hint. A few months ago, I asked you wonderful people to vote on which shorter title you wanted next. It was right after LAW book 8 went live and did not include a choice directly from the LAW series. (I can’t plan those. They scream at me when they’re ready, not the other way around.) I used the results from that vote to decide my release plans for the year. Marc and Angie won and it is now live. Stop back after the celebrations of our beloved country to discover which book came in second and get your copy! *If you signed up to be notified when I have a new release (top right of blog and middle of new FB page) you will get 1-2 emails during the release week. Please check your spam folder if you did, but don’t.
Voting
And lastly, can you please take few minutes to vote on the reviews for this book? It is doing very well right now (top 1000 in the kindle store for the last 3 months) and a group of asshole writers who can’t take the competition are voting up the bad remarks. As you know, seeing a bunch of bad reviews on a book's sale page will make a reader run the other way. Amazon refuses to stop them, even though they get daily complaints from honest authors. Can you please help me?
Life After War: Books 1-3
Thank you!!!

I hope you ladies and gentlemen have a nice summer. I’ve got my greenhouse garden going this year (coons and foxes destroyed my small patio garden last year) and hope it does better. No bees around isn’t helping.
Tip of the month: bees are dying. 90% of all colonies are now gone, mostly just since 2010. Don’t kill bees or we won’t have anything to eat except Soylent Green.
Waving at you (it’s not my finger. Stop it)
Angie

Something New by Angela White

Life After War: Book nine
Shattered Dreams

“You think this will work?”
Marc shrugged, returning to the driver’s seat without answering Neil’s quiet query. He doubted anything or anyone could change Angie’s mind and that included Adrian. She was the most stubborn person he’d ever known, but he didn’t assume she was doing this for attention. Losing the baby hadn’t been planned. He knew that by her reaction. If she’d planned it, she would have also had something waiting for her pain afterwards. Right now, she was eaten up with remorse and anger at herself. Both his demon and hers had warned him that she was obsessing over it, constantly replaying the fight with Vlad that had cost her so much. Besides the obvious not eating well or sleeping much, and the nasty attitude she’d developed, there was the crying every night. It killed him to roll over and find fresh tears, but the ones dried to her face each morning were enough to break him. She started and finished every day the same way now-tearing herself apart for the choices-and Marc was hoping time alone with Adrian would at least remind her that she still had duties to perform. If she went on like this much longer, the camp would call a leadership vote.
That’s what she wants, Adrian sent through the private channel that he and Marc had labored on for the last weeks. Maybe we should let it happen…
Hearing Adrian doubt his own plans sent fury through Marc and he mentally snarled, Put her back to work!
Yes, boss, Adrian retorted snidely. He didn’t send his next thought and Marc was glad. Leaving Angie here, alone with his rival, was a bitter pill to swallow.
We never had to be rivals, Adrian reminded him tiredly. And then slammed the door to break their connection, telling Marc he wouldn’t have any contact with Angie while she was in the cave. A bit of payback for how being banished had felt.
Marc gritted his teeth and led the convoy toward the meeting place that Kyle’s Special Forces team had already secured. He had his job to distract him, thankfully, but it wouldn’t always be this way. Something would give or break with Adrian before they fled the mountains. He’d had enough of living this way. Big changes were coming.

March News and Notes

Happy Spring! It’s finally coming! Windows open this week and everything. It was wonderful. Sigh. That’s about all the good news I have right now. The entire family has been down for weeks with this stomach illness, making it impossible for me to work, even if I had felt well enough to. The Marc and Angie backstory has been delayed until the first week of April, as well as the remaining blog posts on here. I’ll pick back up with the schedule around April 10th, I hope. In the meantime, you can still get this book at the preorder price, so that’s good, right? Here ya go!

Now for the notes!
Book 9 is available for preorder. The release date has not been set, but every preorder allows me to pay for all the things that come before you get it. Which reminds me! Some of the big stores are now offering updated content, which means you can get the edited copies, for free, in your digital library. The list below is all the books that have been edited/rewritten over the last two years. Considering how long it takes an editor to go over a 900-page book, I’d say we’ve made some great progress. And again, I am sorry for the mistakes. I can’t tell you that enough times. I promise to do better with every book I release. Thank you for your patience and for loving the stories as much as I do. You’re all terrific. I hope you know that.
Edited or rewritten titles:
Life After War Deluxe: Books 1-3
The Survivors
On The Road
 Safe Haven
Adrian’s Eagles
From the Ashes

Since the rest of the month’s posts will be delayed, I’m giving you the something new right now. Happy reading!

Book 9: Life After War
Shattered Dreams by Angela White
“Fire in the hole!”
After three days of Adrian blocking and blowing roads to their den, the call didn’t garner attention. In fact, even the sound of his voice was mostly ignored. People inside Safe Haven had more problems than a former leader hanging around. Marc had told them everything that was coming. He refused to lie anymore and the result was a very twitchy camp that needed reassurances from their seer that weren’t coming. Angela wasn’t in any condition to communicate or handle duties. The doctors had agreed to keep her sedated since all she did was cry when awake. Even when Marc was with her, the tears were constant and that man wasn’t sure how much more of it he could handle. He wanted his Angie back, even if she was a cruel, self-centered bitch.
They’d talked a little and he understood why she’d made the choices she had, but it didn’t stop the anger or the guilt. If she had told him what she planned, he would have helped, not interfered. She had no right to exclude him that way and then blame him for what went wrong. At the same time, if he had been able to follow her plans in the past, instead of always feeling the need to second-guess her choices, then maybe she would have confided in him. The gulf between them could hold towns.
The rumbling was ignored by Safe Haven, who was aware of what Adrian was doing. Marc had told the camp that they would be hearing from him regularly while he closed down the mountain. Angela had sent him out to handle that chore alone, in the storm leftovers, with dazed, angry ants roaming everywhere. Marc still wasn’t sure if she was trying to kill Adrian, though he was rooting for it. He did hope she let him get the roads and paths secured first. There were too many threats in range for his liking. Marc wanted to challenge them all, but nothing would get him to go against Angela’s plans and plots right now. She’d only given a few orders since being brought down from the bloody mountain, and he was making sure they were followed. He didn’t want to bunker in here now. He wanted to rush out and meet Vlad’s townspeople with his fury. He didn’t want Adrian locking their doors, either, but that feeling was minor compared to his anger at the people who couldn’t let them have any peace. They’d fought for ten months to keep it together. They’d sacrificed and suffered enough. When did they get a real break?
According to their witch, no break would come until they reached safety. People were now assuming that meant Pitcairn Island. Kendle had no idea how popular she would be when she returned. Some people thought she might just keep going, but Marc knew better. Kendle was terrified of being back on the ocean. She wanted to leave, but the methods were going to keep her with them a bit longer. Marc had wondered if she knew Angela and Adrian planned on a cruise ship. There was no way she would deal well with that and Marc was glad they would be pulling other boats that would need a skeleton crew. It would allow Kendle a different type of ship, at least for the journey that Angela had predicted would take over a month. Instead of foreign lands, flooded coasts, and the unlikely chance of making it back to the Gulf of Mexico, they were going to sail around South America. Marc was daunted and forever impressed with Angela’s courage and ambition. He also thought she was slightly nuts.
Marc shrugged, leaning under the hot water. After everything the world had gone through in a short year, it was a wonder that the survivors weren’t all raging lunatics.
“Ants are clear from all levels,” the radio on the rocky ledge crackled with Billy’s excited voice. They’d clearly had a battle. That rush of happy adrenaline came from surviving. Marc knew it well. He still craved it some days, but the apocalypse had already given him plenty of action. There was no danger of his skills getting rusty.
Marc had already scrubbed and he lingered, enjoying the intense steam of a nearly scalding shower. He still hadn’t adjusted back to having this wonderful convenience. His showers, unless Angie was along, had mostly been quick to save water and let him get onto the next duty or challenge. Now, they were sheltering in place for a month and he could take all the time that he wanted.
The bottom floor shower was empty around him, with only a set of guards who had snapped to when he came in and still hadn’t eased. Knowing their attention was securely on their job let Marc relax and he sank down on the seat beneath the ledge that held his guns and radio. He adjusted the water so that it was a hot trickle on his shoulders, then leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes. He had Kenn and Zack, with Kyle and Jennifer over them, covering the top level of their cave. Neil’s team was policing the second floor, with Daryl and Kendle overseeing two rookie teams on level three. Down here on level four, was Ray and most of Marc’s old team of Eagles. Things were being handled like Angela had instructed and Marc suddenly wished she was here with him so he could hold her in this cloud of peaceful steam and promise her things would get better, that the doctor was wrong.
Her injuries were healing quicker than Jimmy was comfortable with, but even he was following his instructions to the letter-documenting descendant medical finds and sharing them with the other personnel. There were only a few differences, but they were huge and future generations would need that information. To cover his nervousness, the doctor was now traveling in a pack of students, using them to bolster his courage. Marc approved of the coping and the training. He’d thought the man would have to be run out because of his attitude, but Angela’s injury had revealed his attachment to her despite their love-hate relationship. He was giving her excellent care, according to Hilda and Peggy, who were always nearby.
“Power has been reestablished in the gaming area. You may resume your free time there,” the radio echoed again, this time with Tonya’s calm voice. They were still repairing Jayson’s treachery. They were also fixing minor issues that would have come up anyway and Marc was satisfied with their shelter. If not for the coming problems, he would never agree to leave. These mountains were perfect. The surrounding areas would ruin it.
Marc wondered how much time they had left before that crisis hit and shoved the thought away. This was his down time; time to think and restore his own faith. Plans and schemes would come when he had his guns back on.
He turned off the water and tugged his towel down, draping it over his lap, he remained in the steam, enjoying the sensation. He hadn’t been in a sauna for a long time and the stone walls and floor in here made this a very similar experience. It reminded him of days he’d stolen for himself over the years. He had liked going to a ski lodge where no one knew him or an isolate camp ground if he felt like roughing it. Life after war was much like the life he’d had before the bombs, except the stress levels were through the roof and the supplies weren’t neatly delivered and stacked for his use. He’d always thought an apocalypse would make things easier in some ways, but he’d been wrong. The old world of convenience was gone and it surprised Marc to still be mourning it. He knew some of the camp was feeling this way too. It was hard not to with real running water and electric in the caves, but it was knowing they were leaving again that brought on this retrospective mindset. None of them were eager to go. Even those who believed this place to be cursed were busy enjoying the tv room, the game room, the activity floor. Despite the chaos that had taken place, Safe Haven was actually calm and relatively happy right now. Angela had lived, Vlad and his threat was gone, and there were no more refugees screaming at their gate. If not for the overcrowding and Angela’s predictions, things would be perfect.
Marc winced as the image of Angela’s bloody body on the mountain ran through his mind. She’d told him he was in charge before fading out last night and he hadn’t argued. The camp already assumed he was, but she’d known it had to be official. Their witnesses, the doctors and students, had nodded in approval. They knew his leadership would be enough to get them through until she recovered, but it bothered Marc to hear the rest of that thought. We hope. Agree with her methods or not, these people knew she was the best person for the job. It made the urge to do better grow stronger.
He had thought things were covered before the chaos wiped away his delusions of success. This time, he wouldn’t make that mistake. He was double and triple checking his plans and decisions, trying to look further ahead, like she and Adrian were able to do. He wasn’t sure if his short-sightedness could be unlearned but he was determined to try. He was also determined that he wouldn’t become corrupted the way their former leaders had been. He hated to include Angie in with Adrian, but the proof was undeniable. She’d known the avalanche was coming and let it happen to kill hundreds of desperate refugees. She’d taken life forces. It didn’t hurt him to be with someone who could do those things, but it was killing him inside to know that she’d fallen. She’d been full of good and light despite awful childhood events and even worse things as an adult, and he knew she was torn apart over it. His Angie had always been good. For that to change, meant she wasn’t at peace with herself anymore. She would need help through this.
“But not from me,” he muttered, anger and pain rising. There was no way he could be unbiased. Intentional or not, her choices had cost him a child.
Tears that no one else would ever see slid down Marc’s cheeks. His dreams of a happy family with Angie shattered and ran from his eyes in torrents. He had no idea how they would go on from this.

LAW D #27 - Book 5 Sneak Peek!

Regret
1

Adrian woke all at once, not sure what had disturbed him. Eyes still closed, he listened, and heard nothing.

His head ached with a fierce throbbing and though he knew he was in his on cot, he didn’t know how he’d gotten there. He opened his eyes to look at the alarm clock and frowned, listening harder. 9 a.m. He had slept till nine and yet, there was no noise from his camp.

He buttoned jeans he didn’t remember putting on and sat up, aware of the very bright light seeping through the shades. He pulled on his boots, stuffing the laces inside and still, silence. Alarm bells were going off in his head and he quickly strapped on his gun.

“Angela.” He called for her silently, pulling on his jacket and stepping to the door. The air was chilly as the camper door swung open…

Adrian sucked in a painful breath. He grabbed the door frame for support, horrified to feel sharp pains radiate from his chest. It was gone. All of it.

Abandoned, torn up, rusted campers sat on flat tires without windows or doors, and the sickly weeds were growing up over the wheels. The air smelled sour, though the sky was finally clear of the sky grit, but there were no people here.

From the doorway he could see the Mess and the parking area, and although everything was there, it was like the campers; broken, rusty, and charred, with weeds starting to take over the tires.

He stepped slowly down into ankle high greenish plants that seemed to gravitate towards him, brushing, caressing. He turned, and was stunned to see that his camper now looked like the rest of the camp - old, over. There was even a huge hole in the rusted-out bottom stair that should have tripped him and broken his ankle.

His 9mm was in his hand now, the survivor inside coming forward, moving his feet. It was all gone here, all wrong. Charred personal items and bloodstains were on steps, walls, vehicles, and the ground, but they looked faded, frozen in time.

His heart pounded irregularly and he winced this time at the terrifying feeling. Panicking blue eyes found his shiny semi nearby, but he ignored the instinct screaming at him to get in it and run, sensing the trap that might lie hidden there.

He called for Angela again and his heart grew cold when she still didn’t answer. He turned to find her camper, but was drawn to the sight of the crosses on an edge of the cracked pavement.

They were made of wood and scraps, a graveyard of roughly fifty, over-grown and neglected. He knew who they were before he started reading the names... his army.

Back-story

Cesar was raised by one of Mexico’s most ruthless men. Bred to be a warrior in his father’s army, he is a hardened man, who worked his way up the ranks through violence and manipulation. Like his father, Cesar loathes the United States and the number of American’s he's rumored to have killed before the war is over 200. A month after the war, it was 1000.

When the war came, Cesar took a large group of men and headed to the U.S border to rescue friends and family in Arizona and New Mexico detention centers. When he encountered no resistance, he seized the opportunity, invading. The vile man intends to keep anyone from rebuilding and hopes to seed the country with as many bastards as he can, leaving the US an occupied state.

Cesar hates America for many reasons but mostly for what he believes it did to his father.

Current Status: Deceased as of Book 4, Adrian’s Eagles.

Cause of Death: Multiple bullet wounds.

One of Cesar’s main goals is to seed America with his bastard’s, leaving the US an occupied land. He’s been carrying out that plan for months, being very careful to ensure the children are his. As of book 3, Safe Haven, the guerilla has conquered more than 20 towns and rarely spends a night without a slave chained to the pole of his filthy tent.

Question to consider: As of April, 2013, how many children do you think Cesar has on the way?

Something else to think about- Will any of those forced offspring be heard from?

Excerpt:

Immune to the noise, Cesar watched the plump woman ride out of camp, the cries of her two young children making him sure she would do as he wanted. She would be missed for her cooking skills here but at Safe Haven, she would be an invaluable tool waiting for his orders.

His army was undisciplined, drunk on their successful invasion of the hated American’s and the wise guerilla Captain sensed that wouldn’t be enough to defeat the group of survivors from his dream. The blond man had been hard and Cesar recognized the future battle. When it came, he would be ready and none of them would stand. He would stop that vision from ever happening and there was a feeling of importance to the woman disappearing into the fog. Maria would be the key to that battle.

Cesar shoved the toddlers from his leg, waving at a slave to care for them. When his upset sons were older, they too would be sacrifices for the cause. The evil slave trader grinned, letting out a battle cry that was echoed by his men.

”Muerte a Estados Unidos!" Death to America.
